Just watched the WLTV clip. Gary gives a shoutout to my favorite wine critic – Daniel Rogov, the guru of Israeli wine and the only wine critic in Israel writing in English and for a foreign (and local) audience. It seems that Gary very much enjoyed the Yarden 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon. I’m not surprised as all of the wines from the Golan Heights Winery are at a high level (OK, I admit I’m not a huge fan of the Golan Sion Creek label, but that’s the lowest end they have, and for low-low end it’s not so bad). I’m a bit disappointed, though, that he puts it as “Israeli Kosher” instead of Israeli. But GaryV redeems himself from a point he makes in the video:
“Kosher wines have done really well….. There’s a lot of serious stuff going on, as well as non-kosher wines from Israel. Israel is a place that’s really starting to show some major potential.”
And of course, Gary is visiting Israel next year to taste some wines! He’s of course, invited to post his thoughts here on HaKerem: The Israel Wine Blog – the only blog exclusively about Israeli wine writing in English direct from Israel.
