Birthday Wine Suggestions | HaKerem: Israeli Wine

Posted at 14:17h in Events by Avi 1 Comment So, I don’t normally get personal on this Israeli wine site, but Saturday is my birthday and I need some wine for it. Since it’s hot here in Israel (and around the world), I’m looking for a good, refreshing white wine that is available near Tel Aviv. What are your suggestions for my 29th birthday? (Boy, I’m getting old!)

Israeli wine wins prizes | HaKerem: Israeli Wine

Posted at 19:30h in Wine industry by Avi 0 Comments Al-Manar has a translation of an article written by journalist Meni Peer in Ma’ariv. Read the full article Wine is not just another bottled beverage — [the vineyard of origin is an important factor for differentiation] and when it comes to the wines made in Israel, their marketing meets with difficulties when the question of the vineyard location is raised. Nevertheless, the Golan Heights Winery is to be crowned “New World Winery […]

Three jeers for three-tiers! | HaKerem: Israeli Wine

Posted at 22:41h in Wine industry by 0 Comments This doesn’t relate directly to Israeli wine (except insofar as Richard and others are trying to bring Israeli wines direct to American consumers, skipping wholesalers and retailers) but since it talks about Maryland, where I’m from, and relates to why I can’t get good wine shipped to me when I visit the US or to have others bring me, I’m pointing it out. I’m the blogger – I can veer off […]

Bazelet HaGolan Winery | HaKerem: Israeli Wine

Posted at 15:12h in Wine industry, Wineries by 1 Comment Bazelet HaGolan is a winery that I recently “discovered” on my trip up north. Bazelet means “basalt,” and refers to the volcanic terroir of the Golan Heights. The winery was founded in 1998 and released only Cabernet Sauvignon until 2005, and is releasing its first Merlot from the 2006 vintage.  The wines are kosher as of the 2004 vintage, which shows that there is no difference in quality between kosher […]

Posted at 14:49h in Reviews, Wine industry, Wineries by 0 Comments Those who follow me on Twitter @hakerem will know that Robert Parker released his annual guide to wine, Parker’s Wine Buyers Guide, 7th Edition, in early October. Parker’s guide is a list of some of the world’s best wines (at least according to Robert Parker and his team). Yet, there was something new: Israel was included for the first time. This influential guide dedicates about as much space to […]

Galil Mountain Winery | HaKerem: Israeli Wine

Posted at 16:22h in Wineries by 1 Comment It’s no secret to readers of this blog that one of my favorite wineries is the Galil Mountain Winery (not, as my tour guide kept on annoyingly referring to it as the Mt. Galilee Winery). Owned by the vineyards (which also own the Golan Heights Winery) and Kibbutz Yiron, Galil Mountain makes some of the best value wines from Israel. In fact, because it’s a good wine at a good price, my […]
