The Wall Street Journal did a tasting of several kosher (including wines from Israel that happen to be kosher — some of the best but not all of what’s available, by far, and only what’s available in the US) wines from around the world. I need to repeat that Israeli doesn’t equal kosher (particularly as several searchers got to this blog by searching for Parker tasting of kosher wines, when many of the wines tasted by Robert Parker were NOT certified kosher, but simply top Israeli wines) and so Israeli wines also shouldn’t be punished because you don’t like kosher wines from outside (this is particularly important since very few kosher Israeli wines are mevushal). But, the Israeli wines did score well and so it’s worth seeing Israeli wines get respected by the Wall Street Journal.
Note, btw, the criticism of chardonnay’s were that they were overoaked, which has nothing to do with kosher or not kosher, but simply a matter of preference. This is a big controversy in the world of wine, but the unoaked high quality chardonnay was from Israel’s Ella Valley Winery, which – I must say so myself – is absolutely fantastic.
