Master of Wine (MW) is one of the most prestigious titles a oenophile can get. It’s regarded as one of the highest standards of professional knowledge.
In order to get the MW designation
you need to pass a serious of rigorous tests, submit a final research paper, and accrue several years of industry experience.
The Institute of Masters of Wine just announced 5 more MWs. This brings the worldwide total of MWs to 343.
One of the new MWs is an Israeli. Eran Pick, MW, works for Tzora Vineyards. Born in Kfar Saba, he now lives in Tel Aviv. He learned about winemaking in the vineyards of Napa, Sonoma, Barossa and Bordeaux, and graduated from UC Davis with a BS in viticulture and oenology in 2006.
Pick’s research paper was on “The Quantification of the Variability of Meso climates among Important Vineyard Regions in Israel”
The other MWs were are from Switzerland, Czech Republic (now based in the UK), and Malaysia (now based in New Zealand).
